Eye-Catching James Cameron's "Avatar" Concept Arts
>> May 29, 2009
MarketSaw have scored two new official concept art pieces from upcoming James Cameron's sci-fi “Avatar,” those revealing a full shot of the powersuit and some sort of futuristic helicopter. These are official, as MarketSaw confirmed them with Fox and got their approval to run both of them. These images also appear in the forthcoming book "The Art of Avatar: James Cameron's Epic Adventure," which is currently available for pre-order and due out on shelves in December.
In the first image above, you see the full design of a Powersuit. It was just a couple of days back that we saw a partial photograph of a practical suit built for the film. Looking at the full representation here will give you a better sense of its scale. Meanwhile, for the second image which you can check after the jump below, according to SlashFilm, that one appears to show action from a set piece rather near the end of proceedings. Fleeing in the foreground is another one of the futuristic flying machines and behind it is one of the native beasts of Pandora. Which they think is a Bansheeray.
There great amount of Pandoran flora and fauna was dreamt up by Cameron to create a very complex alien ecosystem and he’s probably planning to leave it in the background, behind the drama and characterizations..
From Bansheerays to Direwolves, the Leonopteryx to the Direhorse, and of course including the Na’vi, the humanoid natives at the heart of the matter, there’s an awful lot Avatar alienage, the vast majority of it still to be unveiled.
Avatar is filmed in the old "Spruce Goose" hangar, the 16,000-sq.-ft. space where Howard Hughes built his wooden airplane. The film is set in the future, and most of the action takes place on a mythical planet, Pandora. The actors work in an empty studio; Pandora's lush jungle-aquatic environment is computer-generated in New Zealand by Jackson's special-effects company, Weta Digital, and added later.
