Jackman, Weisz, Pattinson are The Unbound Captives

>> May 14, 2009

According to FirstShowing, Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Rachel Weisz (Agora) and Robert Pattinson (New Moon) will star together in a period drama called “Unbound Captives.” The film is to be directed by Madeleine Stowe (The Last of the Mohicans, The General's Daughter) and will be her directorial debut. She wrote the script with her husband Brian Benben back in the early 90s, but declined a $5 million offer because originally she wanted to star in it. However, she eventually realized that would never be possible, cast Weisz in her role instead, and decided to direct the film. Hyde Park Entertainment will produce; production will start at the end of the year.

Weisz in this film will play a woman whose husband is killed and her two children kidnapped by a Comanche war party in 1859. She is later rescued by a frontiersman, to be played by Jackman. Pattinson will play the son. Helping Stowe make sure the film looks wonderful will be cinematographer John Toll, of everything from “Braveheart” to “The Thin Red Line” to “The Last Samurai” to “Tropic Thunder.”
Previously, Fox offered Stowe $3 million, and later $5 million, for her script, with Ridley Scott poised to direct and Russell Crowe to star. She turned down what was among the highest sums offered a first-time scribe because there was no promise she would be anything more than screenwriter.
