One first look trailer of western martial arts film "The Warrior's Way" has appeared on the net recently. The film that was once called "Laundry Warrior" is an English language fantasy action film starring Kate Bosworth, Geoffrey Rush, Danny Huston, Tony Cox and Korean actor Jang Dong-gun. According to 24FPS, the trailer was up on YouTube but got taken down but it resurfaced again via RuTube, which you can find the link below.
Helmed and written by Sngmoo Lee, "The Warrior's Way" has a $45 million budget through Sad Flutes, a company set up by Michael Peyser [Speed 2] and Lee Joo-ick [Seven Swords] and is being produced by Barrie Osborne who also produced Lord of the Rings. Lee taught film in NYC for the past five years. This will be his debut film. Filming took place in New Zealand between November 2007 and February 2008 and Weta has been involved in a lot of the effects. “We draw on two great milieux, the Samurai movie and the Western,” Peyser said. “We will deliver a stylized, partly anime feel, with the techniques of ‘300,’ but a look that is brighter.”. The movie is scheduled for release sometime in August 2009.
Synopsis: Yang, the World's Greatest Swordsman, leaves his clan and flees Asia with baby April, the last of the enemy bloodline. Hoping to make a new life for himself as a humble laundryman in America's Wild West, he comes to know and care about the people of Lode, a small, forgotten town filled with carnival players. While there, Yang finds a pupil/lover in Lin, (a beautiful Asian girl), but also makes new enemies with the Hell Riders, a marauding gang of vicious thugs. Reluctant to stand forward and defend the town, because it will mean revealing his identity, Yang is soon forced to pick up his sword and lead the "carnies" and townsfolk in to an incredible battle against the loathsome Hell Riders. At the pitched height of that battle, Yang's past, the Asian sword clan he left behind, ("The Sad Flutes"), attack raising the battle to an epic crescendo...
The project was set to star Jang Dong-gun and Zhang Ziyi when it was first announced in early 2007. Filming was delayed when Jang Dong-gun injured himself several months before filming was to start. When the project was put on hold Zhang Ziyi moved on to film Chen Kaige's "Mei Lanfang." Zhang Ziyi's departure brought aboard Geoffrey Rush and Kate Bosworth respectively when filming was set to go again.
"The Warrior's Way" features the fight choreography of Japanese action director Yuji Shimomura, a protégé of Donnie Yen with AD credits that include "Versus," "Aragami," "Shinobi: Heart Under Blade," and motion capture for several action video games including "Devil May Cry 4." Kensuke Sonomura is assistant fight choreographer and stunts have been overseen by Hollywood veteran Augie Davis (The Water Horse).
