Two Interesting Clips for Pang Bros' "The Storm Warriors"

>> Sep 6, 2009

Two new full CG martial arts clips have been released for Pang Brothers' upcoming film "The Storm Warriors" which perhaps one of the most anticipated movie coming out in Hong Kong this year. Both of these clips had shown in bits and pieces in the earlier promotional materials but now running as complete scenes. They were "The Water Droplet Battle" and "The Floating Swords." You can check both of them right after the jump.

This first time collaboration of the brothers in a martial arts genre is also the anticipated sequel to one Hong Kong blockbuster known as "The Storm Raiders." With big budget, the heavily CG effected martial arts fantasy will reunites the original cast such as Aaron Kwok and Ekin Cheng to reprising their roles as Cloud and Wind. This film also loads in a ton of other big names, most notably Simon Yam in the villain role also young stars Nicolas Tse and Charlene Choi.

Pang Brothers said this upcoming book-to-film action movie is shooting in a completely digitalized realm and ninety percent of the scenes have used computer-animated effects. The total budget is around 100 million yuan, about 146,000 US dollars. "Storm Warriors" and its predecessor are based on a bestselling, long-running Hong Kong comic book series titled "Fung Wan" by artist and writer Ma Wing-shing. "Storm Warriors" will be based on one of the most classic and popular story arcs in the comic series – the Death Battle – that features an all-out fight to the end between the two main protagonists.
What is interesting this time is that the story features a complete role reversal for the two characters. Where the first film pitted a pensive and calm Wind against a moody, rage-filled Cloud hell-bent on revenge against his master Hong Ba, this time it is Cloud who has to stop Wind from heading down the path of no return, and becoming a “demon”.
Besides the anticipated showdown between Wind and Cloud, the story also includes a new villain, Lord Godless (Simon Yam), and an introduction to one of the comic’s longest-living villains – Heart (Nicholas Tse).
According to Danny, they chose to film this particular story arc because it is one of the highlights of the entire comic series.
“The Death Battle story arc is one of the most interesting and popular in Fung Wan. Even fans of the comic agree that this part of the series is the best,” he said.
“We wanted to be true to the comic book and show respect for the creator, so we followed the original story as faithfully as we could. We didn’t change it much; 90% of it is exactly the same.”
