Odin Played by None Other Than Hannibal Lecter

>> Oct 30, 2009

Another “Thor” casting rumor trapped on the web. THR's Heat Vision Blog currently reported that Anthony Hopkins is "in negotiations" to play the Norse god and ruler of Asgard in the Marvel comic adaptation being directed by Kenneth Branagh. Previous announced cast also includes Chris Hemsworth as the god of thunder Thor, Tom Hiddleston as his evil brother Loki, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, and apparently Robert De Niro and Jude Law. Sounds very very impressive already, but adding Hopkins to any production immediately classes up the joint.

In the pic that was scheduled to coming out on May 20, 2011. The Mighty Thor is a powerful but arrogant warrior of Asgard, but after his reckless actions reignite an ancient war, his father banishes him to Earth to live among humans. He learns the meaning of heroism when he stands tall as his arch enemy from home sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

In its mythology, Odin is considered the chief god in Norse paganism and the ruler of Asgard, the mythical world where the Norse gods reside. The name Odin is generally accepted as the modern translation; although, in some cases, older translations of his name may be used or preferred. His name is related to ōðr, meaning "fury, excitation," besides "mind," or "poetry." His role, like many of the Norse gods, is complex. He is considered a principal member of the Aesir (Norse Pantheon) and is associated with wisdom, war, battle, and death, and also magic, poetry, prophecy, victory, and the hunt. The character in “Thor” comic first appeared in Marvel's Journey into Mystery #86 in 1962 and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
