Raimi Opened Up About Possible 'Spider-Man 4' Villains

>> Oct 13, 2009

Director Sam Raimi has suggested earlier that the production of "Spider-Man 4" will starting March 2010, Tobey Maguire also will return to star as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man, as well as Kirsten Dunst who will reprise her Mary Jane Watson role. But which villains will be picked to be Spider-Man's new nemesis in the sequel is still unclear. Currently, Raimi has shared his opinion on the baddies fans are mostly looking forward to see. When presented with the result of MTV's fan poll on the desired villains, he opened up about the top two choices, Lizard and Carnage.

"I love the Lizard," the “Drag Me to Hell” helmer told MTV in the recent chat. "There's a great story there in the Marvel comic books about Dr. Connors. I'm less familiar with Carnage." While giving his response to the poll, the director for the upcoming “World of Warcraft" adaptation kept tight lid on which villains will be featured, saying "I'm not allowed to say at this point."

However, Raimi did mention that the choice of the baddie will depend on how the villain will fit into the story arc of Peter Parker. "What we're trying to do right now is really understand the journey Peter is going to go on this time and have the villain maybe be a counter to that growth, something that he has to overcome," he clarified. "Or maybe he has to grow in a way to overcome the villain, because there always seem to be stories of coming of age, of a young man growing up and learning things about life, so once we are identifying the exact movement that Peter has to grow to, I think the villain - and we're trying this right now; we're trying to choose a villain based on who would be the proper counter to that growth, so we really have dramatic conflict."

In addition, Raimi also talk about his next project which is big screen adaptation of the "World of Warcraft" video game. He revealed that he has hired Robert Rodat, who’s known for such films as "Saving Private Ryan" and "The Patriot." to write the script. "We want to be really faithful to the game," Raimi said. "We would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a 'World of Warcraft' adventure. We would choose something that encompasses lands and characters and storylines, and we would be true to it. But our story may or may not be about one of those central characters."

"He continued: [The goal is to capture] the Horde and the Alliance and the mythology that takes place in the game, and the archetypes that the game presents. I think we would try and find touchstones within the game to make it accurate and true and choose one or some of the lands that are portrayed in the game with as much accuracy and authenticity as possible."
