Chris Evans Picks Up The Star-Spangled Shield

>> Mar 24, 2010

Among the last three contenders for Captain America role who include Channing Tatum and Sebastian Stan, the Human Torch actor, Chris Evans, is reportedly the one offered a deal to star in the upcoming superhero film of “The Avengers” series. According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), the 28-year-old actor who was recently added to the list of possible depicter of the superhero in "The First Avenger: Captain America" has been offered a deal by Marvel Studios to tackle the coveted role. However, both the studio and the "Push" actor's rep have not given any comment regarding the news. No one knew if Evans would accept the 9-picture option and low-ball $300,000 salary while Marvel also has yet to confirm who is cast as Captain America. Previously there has been rumor which mentions that Hugo Weaving is in talks to be the movie villain, Red Skull. Moreover, Keira Knightley, Alice Eve and Emily Blunt are reportedly under consideration to be the leading lady.

But now, it seems the casting search for Steve Rogers aka the title role in “Captain America” has finally come to the end. Heat Vision Blog says that their sources had inform them that Evans has accepted Marvel's offer to suits up as the shield-slinging American hero in up to three movies, plus, "The Avengers" movies. He has accepted the offer after mulling it over for a few days. Although the deal is still being finalized with contracts being written and, presumably rewritten, it seems a done deal. And quite a deal it is. The role will be the fourth live-action movie based on a comic book series in which he's starred. Evans previously appeared as Johnny Storm in both "Fantastic Four" movies, and has prominent roles in both "The Losers" (based on the DC/Vertigo series) and "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" (based on the Oni Press series) later this year.

"The First Avenger: Captain America" will center its story on Steve Rogers military service washout who volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America and tries to fit in his new image. Joe Johnston is already hired to direct this action movie which is planned to start shooting in June this year for July 22, 2011 release in the U.S.
