Green Lantern’s Suit May Actually Be Entirely CG

>> Apr 12, 2010

Albeit "Green Lantern" has by now started filming, we have yet to see a single real image of Ryan Reynolds wearing the costume. Now, according to SlashFilm, the Green Lantern suit we will see in the upcoming DC comic adaptation film will be almost entirely made by computer generated effect. Site’s independent sources said that the green costume which Ryan Reynolds wears on set is a grey tracking motion/performance capture suit with led lights. They even heard Reynolds joking on set that Warner Bros is going to make him into a Na’vi when the final cut is released. The decision to go CG came when the filmmakers realized that Hal Jordan will have to change suits multiple times in a single scene, in order to take shape of his power. Plus, it gave costume designer Ngila Dickson the chance to make Green Lantern look different from all other superheroes. DC Comics' chief creative officer Geoff Johns has seen the designs and has given his blessing.

Dickson previously has won an Academy Awards for her work in “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.” While worked on the entire “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, she also involved in “The Last Samurai” (another film which earned her an Oscar nomination), “The Illusionist”, and “Blood Diamond.”

In addition news, Artist Jason Palmer who has worked on many feature films and now been hired by Warner Bros, come up with a few costume designs for the upcoming "Green Lantern" movie. He recently submitted all of his ideas to the studio and added one particular costume design on the cover. For some reason he did not include that design inside the submission, which means that Warners will likely never use it. As a result, Palmer felt comfortable releasing it online. Above in thumbnail is one of the arts which should give you an idea regarding the direction that "Green Lantern" is headed.

Oh, I'm sure Ryan will look smashing even if he wears nothing :) but green is my favourite colour.
