New Epical Images for "Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame"

A group of fresh images has appeared online for the upcoming mystery martial arts epic directed by Tsui Hark, "Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame". The photos features the majestic set and colorful costumes also highlighting the looks of main actress Carina Lau as Wu Zetian, the only empress of ancient China, her costumes that were lavishly designed and made with layers of embroidery, which add to the empress' majesty, and her diversified eyebrow shapes. With its domestic release set for September 29, the film is the only Chinese-language competitor for the Golden Lion award at this year's Venice International Film Festival, which will open in Venice, Italy on Sept. 1.
In the film, Hong Kong top actor Andy Lau (Infernal Affairs) portrays “Di Ren Jie,” a magistrate in the Tang Dynasty court, who is tasked by an empress to investigate a series of enigmatic deaths of court officials. With stunning production design, wuxia-style action direction by Sammo Hung, and starring roles also filled by Carina Lau, Li Bingbing (The Forbidden Kingdom), Tony Leung Ka-fai (Bodyguards and Assassins), and Lau Ching-wan this film looks to be one of the highlights of Asia’s 2010 lineup.
